DANCING BETWEEN THE LINES regards our bodies as texts, rich with histories, ripe with desire, and filled with truths and half-truths. This provocative concert features the all-new company performing Li Chiao-Ping’s dynamic and light-hearted work “The Gó Cycle,” and “The Sidewalks Project: Dancing Stories of Border Crossings,” showcasing “Crossing the Lines,” Walls,” and “Green Dance,” three premieres which sort through the business of sorting. Drawing on current events, Ms. Li has woven a meta-tale of tolerance and respect, shifting from serious to comic, mundane to sublime. Ms. Li will also premier a solo choreographed for her by esteemed choreographer/Guggenheim fellow Victoria Marks, which is part of Li’s Women Dancing project. “ETA Movements,” a powerful group work performed by UW students as ACDFA in Madison in March, will also be presented. Li’s concert collaborators include visual artist Kalpana Prakash and composers Marie Kulackoski and Daniel Feiler. LCPD is a resident dance company at the Overture Center for the Arts. “Li’s done more to put Madison on the dance map than any other choreographer in recent city history.” Isthmus “The physics of dance—the visible measurement of thrust, momentum, speed and weight—are rarely as palpable as they are in the body of Li Chiao-Ping.” Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
