Arrivals and Departures, Li Chiao-Ping Dance's spring concert program, features the performances of several much-anticipated new works, including Camber, a beautiful new solo created for Ms. Li by the exquisite dancer/choreographer Molissa Fenley with music by William Duckworth. This solo is a part of Li Chiao-Ping's Women Dancing project, mirroring her landmark program that she created and performed approximately ten years ago called The Men's Project, noted in Dance Magazine that "for each choreographic variable, Li remained the constant: riveting, powerful grace." Li's new group works include: Past Forward, a gorgeous trio with live music composed and performed by the talented Nils Bultmann; Take-Off, a dynamic group work that looks at propelling oneself through space, filled with high-flying and low-flying maneuvers to the exciting music by the group Explosions in the Sky; and Arrival*, a community-based group work co-created with internationally-renowned video artist/director Douglas Rosenberg, which explores the individual and collective histories that make Madison home to many Jewish immigrants with original music composed by up-and-coming Israeli-born composer Matan Rubinstein. Come celebrate the Chinese New Year with this special revival of Li's humorous work, L'Année Du Chien, a part-dog, part-human story of learning how to sit and other tricks. Also on this program will be Li's signature solo work Chi, performed by former company member Megan Thompson; Chi is a solo work exemplifying Li's explosive and powerful style with music by Stephen Vitiello. *Since Arrival will only be performed on Thursday and Saturday (May 4 and 6), audiences will get a chance to see Rosenberg's latest dance film Verge on Wednesday and Friday (May 3 and 5), which will air on Wisconsin Public Television this summer.

Don't miss this first look at Li's innovative and fresh repertory. In signature fashion, Li Chiao-Ping dances that fine edge of classical beauty and postmodern eclecticism.
