Authentic Movement: Sourcing movement.  Gain an embodied understanding of your core self and replenish your spirit through the process of moving authentically.  (artist teacher:  Mariah Meyer LeFeber)  FRI  1-2:30PM

 

Choreography: Investigating the Use of the Hyperbole and other Movement Amusements. (artist teacher:  Li Chiao-Ping) SUN, MON  2:30-4

 

Contemporary Dance Technique: Focus on fluid control, dynamic phrasing, inversions, and subtle articulations of the body (artist teachers:  Li Chiao-Ping, Collette Stewart, Megan Thompson)  SUN, MON, TUES, WED, THURS, FRI 11-12:30

 

Dancing for the Camera Screening:  A brief overview of the history of screen dance followed by a special screening of selected works from ADF’s Dancing for the Camera Festival, curated by Douglas Rosenberg. (artist teachers:  Anneliese Charek, Li Chiao-Ping)  TUES 4-5:30

 

Dance & Music:  Delve into creating live performance collaboratively and work on skills of presence and engagement through improvisation.  (artist teachers:  Darryl Harper/The Onus Trio, Li Chiao-Ping) MON 4-5:30

 

Dance & Politics: Following 9/11, Bill T. Jones predicted that choreographers would now embrace politics and create “works with a public voice” able to act “as a service of social change.”  In this class, we will sample theories about the artist’s role in society and explore methods of making dances that could speak with “a louder public voice.” Come ready to discuss and to move. Experiential Anatomy: Using guided hands-on partner work, we will explore the image and sensation of the lungs as a gateway to deeper breath and richer qualities of movement. (artist teacher: Kate Hewson)  MON 10-11

 

Use Extreme Moves (developed by Li Chiao-Ping), a.k.a. “Blood, Guts, and Sweat”, to strengthen the core and condition the body. Utilize exercise balls and other equipment in this innovative method to practice inversions and strengthen the upper body.   (artist teachers:  Li Chiao-Ping, Emily Miller) MON, WED 1-2:30PM

                           

Repertory, learn choreography from Li Chiao-Ping Dance’s highly physical repertory.  You can come to one or all.  (artist teacher:  Robin Baartman)  SUN, TUES, THURS  1-2:30PM

 

Screen Dance 101:  Learn about this exciting hybrid art form and gain skills for making dances for camera.  Bring your own video camera if you own one. (artist teachers: Anneliese Charek, Li Chiao-Ping)  TUES 2:30-4

 

Screen Dance Project:  Participate in the creation of a new work for camera.  Drop-ins ok.   (artist teachers: Li Chiao-Ping, Douglas Rosenberg) TUES, WED, THURS, FRI  times vary     

Skinner-based Releasing: Using guided hands-on partner work, we will release excess tension throughout the body in order to access more efficient movement and to re-educate our neuromuscular systems. (artist teacher: Kate Hewson) FRI 10-11AM                 

        

Yoga/Pilates: build core strength, breath, control, and flexibility through these somatic practices (artist teachers: Robin Baartman, Collette Stewart, Megan Thompson)  SUN, TUES, WED, THURS 10-11AM
